Pupil Aneth

Since the sudden death of her father in September 2024, Aneth has lived in a simple house with her mother, who suffers from high blood pressure, and her siblings. She was unable to attend secondary school for financial reasons.

She dreams of running a small dressmaking studio where she designs clothes and accessories and where she can later pass on her knowledge to other young women.

Pupil Dorcas

Dorcas lives with her parents in a suburb of Arusha. After completing secondary school, she studied in a tailoring workshop for 3 months. Unfortunately, she was unable to continue her studies as her parents could no longer afford to pay for her lessons. Since then she has helped her mother with the housework.

She dreams of opening her own shop one day, sewing fabrics and selling different types of clothing.

Pupil Eliza

Eliza lives with her family in a village near Arusha. After completing primary school, her parents searched in vain for a favourable training opportunity for their daughter in a skilled trade. Eliza therefore stayed at home and helped her mother in and around the house.

She dreams of decorating Maasai clothes with glass beads and selling them. In a few years, she will get married and have a few children. She does not want to become a housewife, but wants to continue working and running her business.

Pupil Faraja

  • Date of Birth: 03.10.2003
  • School leaving certificate: Secondary school (graduated 2023)
  • Tribe: Maasai

Faraja lives with her family near the school campus. After completing secondary school, she tried to study at a tailoring school. However, the teacher was rarely present. Her parents also struggled to pay the school fees. She was therefore all the happier to be given the opportunity to study at the school in Engoitoi Epuan.

After completing her education, Faraja would like to work either alone, in a group or as an employee in her profession.

Pupil Monika

  • Date of Birth: 16.02.1999
  • School leaving Certificate: Secondary School (graduated 2020)
  • Tribe: Maasai

When Monika was still young, both her parents died as a result of Aids. She is also HIV-positive and was brought up by a friend and her husband. As there were not enough financial resources to enable Monika to do an apprenticeship after leaving school, she tried to find work as a day labourer in agriculture.

Monika dreams of opening her own business and employing other seamstresses.

Pupil Sindet

Sindet lives in a small village in the remote Maasai region of Loliondo together with her family. After successfully completing secondary school, she was unable to continue her education as her family could not afford it. She therefore helped her mother around the house and cooked from time to time in a small street café.

Sindet would like to get married at a later date. However, she does not want to become a housewife, but to run her own business.


Pupil Sion

  • Tribe: Maasai

Sion grew up in a remote Maasai village near the border with Kenya. She was sad when she learnt that she had failed the 2nd secondary level and was therefore no longer allowed to continue her education. Her parents were unable to pay for her education elsewhere. However, they are willing for Sion to continue her education before she gets married - for which she is very grateful.

Sion dreams of opening a shop in the larger village of Longido. In addition to sewing clothes, she plans to pass on her knowledge to young women. Just as Engoitoi Epuan helped hers, she wants to help others too!

Pupil Sione

Soine lives with her family in a remote Maasai village. After successfully completing school, she would have liked to go to university to become a teacher. However, her parents were unable to finance this. She looked for and eventually found work as a shop assistant in a small shop.

Soine would like to open a small shop near her home town where she sews school clothes for girls and boys. She would like to work independently so that she can earn her own living independently of others.

Pupil Tumaini

Shortly after Tumani's birth, her parents separated and she was raised by her mother. She hardly knows her father and he does not look after her or her siblings. She would have liked to become a teacher, but she did not have enough money to go to university. She therefore tried to find an apprenticeship as a seamstress. However, she soon realised that her mother would not be able to afford the school fees.

Tumaini dreams of working as an employed seamstress in a company. Soine lives with her family in a remote Maasai village.
